5 Ways for Entrepreneurs to Maximize Productivity

Being an entrepreneur is exciting and rewarding, but it can also be challenging at times. When you own a business, your workday never really ends. You may be writing emails at three a.m. or working on next year’s budget on Sunday afternoon instead of going to the golf course. With so much riding on your company’s success, you must find ways to fit everything in. Here are five things that may help maximize your productivity.

1. Multi-Task

Multi-tasking can be taken to an unhealthy extreme, but it can also allow you to get a few more things done each day. If you’re stuck in slow-moving traffic during your commute, that’s an excellent opportunity to return phone calls, hands-free, of course, and it helps to pass the time. You can also read emails or business articles while you’re eating lunch and listen to podcasts or news while exercising.

2. Get the Most Difficult Task Done First

At the start of the day, while you’re still fresh, take on that unpleasant task that you’d rather skip all together. Put it behind you early, and the rest of the day will be a breeze in comparison.

3. Control Your Meetings

The truth is that many face-to-face meetings could be handled much more efficiently with a memo, eliminating digressions and unnecessary distractions. When meeting in person is actually necessary, arrive with an agenda that includes the start and end times, and stick to it.

4. Control Your Email

It can be tempting to open your mailbox every time an email notification pops onto the screen, but it’s also very inefficient. Consider scheduling time each day to review and respond to emails. Use email rules to redirect important or time-sensitive messages, such as those from your team, to a separate folder to help with organization.

5. Use Technology

It seems as though there is an app for everything these days. Whenever you find yourself performing repetitive manual tasks, consider whether they can be automated to save time.

As an entrepreneur, you need to get the most out of each day, which means making the best and most efficient use of your time. When possible, combine activities that are safely done together. Try to get your least pleasant tasks completed first, and don’t get trapped in meetings that go on longer than necessary. These are some things that will boost your productivity, but more importantly, be sure to allow time for a good night’s sleep and take a day off now and then.
